My 1956 Nancy Ann "Little Debbie" Doll by

My 1956 Nancy Ann “Little Debbie” Doll in her original dress, shoes, socks, and undies. She stands 10.5 inches tall, is a walker, and her hair is tied back in the ever popular style of the day, the pony tail. She is as close to mint as any doll ever could be that has been removed from a factory sealed box. Of my large doll collection, she is one of my absolute favorites. Maybe because the Nancy Ann Doll Company gave her the name, “Little Debbie”. And in 1956, I was 5 years old, and had a little red pony tail just like her’s.

A very welcome “blast from the past”! I am a few years older than you, Deborah, and the first dolls that I had were made of china and were very “cold”, so I did not like them, preferring my cuddly toys. I made it clear to my mother (perhaps a little too clear in retrospect!) that I did not like them. Then one Christmas I was sent a doll called “Mary Ann”, very similar to your “Little Debbie”. I had several other presents and I remember my mother putting it in one of the drawers of her dressing table.
I was preoccupied with my other presents, so temporarily forgot about its existence. When I remembered and asked my mother for it,
I was not best pleased to be told that she had given it away, as I did not like dolls! Just my luck!

  • Wow!!! Too bad she gave it away!!! I think everyone has had a favorite toy that their mother gave away. Mine was a record player!! Wish I had that thing now!! Thanks for the comment!!

Sorry about the rather odd layout of this comment. That’s what comes of holding conversations with husbands, when you are trying to devote yourself to the serious business of nattering!

  • LOL I have one of those, too!!! I completely understand.
