While driving through West Texas we wound up in El Paso… it’s not even summer and the temperature is close to one hundred degrees at sundown. With the air conditioner out in the old Camero, it felt like one-twenty. We needed a drink, and fast.
Along comes this cantina which looked like an oasis in the baking sun… not a good part of town but what the hell, I’ve seen worse. Getting out of the car, the parking lot smelled like urine and beer… my kinda place. The bars on the door, the broken down vehicles on the street, and Mexican locals looking at us sideways, this was going to be fun.
Inside it was dark and even hotter than outside, I guess they don’t use the air conditioning until it gets really hot. We sit at the bar and order two tequila shots and a couple of beers and it tasted like a piece of heaven in this purgatory town.
