Kaneohe, Oahu Hawaii USA
Here is the Marines memorial at the entrance to the Marine Corps Base- Hawaii. It is a replica of the Joe Rosenthal-inspired memorial in Newington, Connecticut, and is slightly different from the memorials in Arlington, Virginia and Harlingen, Texas. It holds a special place in Hawaiians’ hearts since Oahu is one of three places that Marines trained for the taking of Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima. The flag was raised at around 10:20am on February 23, 1945.
