Excellent pen and watercolour (I’ll have to see what type Schminke is).
You’ve superbly conveyed the quality, and rough weather-beaten look, of this old Italian architecture.

thanks – Schminke is ( obviously :-) ) a German watercolour – I really like the way it “sits” on the paper…

I’ve just had a look online- it looks just right for my watercolours – but it’s way out of my pocket!
I’ll have to stick to my Cotman and Ashby pans.

  • the difference is amazing – worth trying – and Girtin only used five colours so that cannot be too expensive!

I’ve just bought a set of 17 quid, St Petersburg 24 pan colours, which were called ‘artist quality’.
But they are variable – some of the vile greens and blues, cannot be lifted out! I have to cover it in Gouache. Lifting is 90% of my painting!

  • well you know the maths – how many tubes af artists quality would that buy!!
if you do a lot of lifting out look at Winsor and Newton Lift Out medium ….
