Arizona Gopher Snake captured in Cave Creek w/ a Canon 20D & Canon 100mm macro.
My dog came across this juvenile Gopher snake in our backyard last night at about 10:30pm – so out came the camera.
These are Arizona’s longest snake reaching 100" although this guy was only about 18-20" long. When cornered they will coil & strike but are non-venomous. They also shake their tails along the ground attempting to mimic the sound of a rattlesnake.
