Red-spotted Toad

Daniel J. McCauley IV

Red-spotted Toad

This guy came out after a heavy storm in the desert.
I thought it turned out pretty well since it was 9:30 at night and all I had was a small flashlight and the onboard flash.
He is about 2 inches in length. Shot in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Great shot Daniel, making good use of the limited lighting. They are very opportunistic creatures. I once sat on my porch as a massive storm ripped through the mine i was working at in outback Australia and witnessed oodles of frogs magically appearing to hop their way with the flow of the flash flood waters.

  • Daniel J. McCa... replied

It is strange how they just “appear”. Never see them unless it storms. Thanks much, Cain.

Great shot Daniel. Toads here usually see the back end of a shovel. Cane Toads were introduced here years ago to eat the sugar cane beetle. They have subsequently spead like wildfire and have caused incredible harm to our native animals. It’s nice to see one in it’s own environment happy to have its photo taken :)

  • Daniel J. McCa... replied

lol… Well I have to admit, this one did not see the back end of a shovel. However I can understand that being a serious problem. Although I’m not sure this guy was too happy, just got tired of trying to get away : ) Thanks Marlin.
