Summer life here in Port Alexander, Alaska is centered around fishing and our protected harbor provides a calm location for the packers to buy fish from the trollers (not to be confused with trawlers).
Salmon are caught by line and hook and are immediately cleaned and pressure-bled, leading to a high quality product.
The packers here are: (from left) M/V Sea Lion, M/V Afognak, and the M/V Eyak. The Eyak also delivers our freight and mail during the winter months.
The skiff on the far right is “our caddie”… my husband’s a very good mechanic so we take care of it for a fellow photographer (& teacher) who is only here for a bit in the summer and in return he allows us to use it the rest of year.
