Double-headed Cormorant

Introducing the Double-headed, Double-crested Cormorant!!

ok… It’s really two Cormorants…

Took this shot yesterday, with hubby driving me around in the skiff – it’s so much easier for me to shoot when he’s doing the driving!

It is cropped… I know some of the highlights are blown but it was just toooooo cool to let that stop me from posting it.

Great capture DJ – well spotted.

  • DJ LeMay replied

Thank you, Rob… I can barely tear myself away from your sunsets to get some shots uploaded!!

  • Renee Dawson

    Renee Dawson

What a cool capture! I don’t think it’s blown own much at all DJ – without that light you wouldn’t have been able to get so much beautiful detail out of those feathers. They so often look like black silhouettes unless you can catch them in just the right light! Well done you :) xo

  • DJ LeMay replied

Not tooo bad, ay? just the one beak… I did a shadow/highlight adjustment in PS… worked ok. These ones actually are different from our usual totally black and smaller ones that are ALWAYS around… Got just a few feet from one these guys the day before too! It’s harder to choose WHAT image to work on and upload than it is to take the shots!! lol…
    thank you, sweetie!! :)))))))))

  • Richard Stanley

    Richard Stanley

Wow – you sure have some strange cormorants up there DJ. Great shot!

  • DJ LeMay replied

Lived out here for 10 years and I’ve never seen these BIG and yellow-beaked cormorants here before, altho my husband has. Their bodies are much lighter in color than our usual ones too! I was totally following them around for the last couple of days!!
    Thank you, Richard!

Brilliant shot – can’t beat luck in some cases, you know, right place, right camera handy, that kind of thing. And a quick trigger finger helps too :-) Well captured, thanks for posting it.

  • DJ LeMay replied

Thank you very much, Themis! I just wish I could’ve gotten closer… but it was a split second shot of course! Talk about a trigger finger… got three shots all wrote to card in the same second! lol… only this one tho captured them perfectly as they were moving and we were moving in the skiff! :)

  • KMorral

    KMorral
