Northern Pintail

Tucson, Arizona using a Canon Powershot SX40HS

This stunning dabbling duck is declining in numbers. It breeds from the tundra southward, largely in Alaska, Canada and the Great Plains,
Nesting in open countries around rivers, marshes, and lakes. Like all dabbling duck, pintails court with vigorous gesturing of the head and
erratic paired flights, the male uttering a repeated “burp whistle”.

Pintails in winter in a variety of inland and coastal wetlands, from river margins to marshes and swamps to estuaries. Flocks of flying birds
often form lines (smaller dabblers ususlly fly in irregular formations).

This species is usual shy and wary, feeding mostly in the evening and at night.

VOICE Male: a tremulous, tooting whistle, often doubled. Female: nasal quacking, higher and softer than Mallard

My images are not photo shopped. They have only been adjusted with basic sharpening, contrasting & saturation techniques. I believe that in order to appreciate Nature, you have to capture it as it is, naturally.
