House Sparrow

House Sparrows were released in new York City in 1851 as part of a plan to have all birds mentioned in Shakespeare’s works nesting in Central Park. this species has since spread across the continent. it breeds in urban and suburban environments and on farms and ranches, never far from human habitation, and feedlots.

Chestnut nape reaches eyes, contrasts with gray crown. median covers have white tips (reduced or absent in non-breeding an sub-adult male). Heavy black bill has curved culmen, black on breast extends to throat.

VOICE Song a reedy, sweet but short sreedip, repeated in long series. Calls varied but similar in quality
