Artist's Description

Taken at Mt. Lemmon 2 years ago using a Canon Powershot SX100IS (my first canon) Tucson, Arizona

Pleasing Fungus Beetles are often present in large numbers on the fruiting bodies of various fungi, especially bracket fungi on logs. There are about 50 species in North America.

Gibbifer californicus is the only North American representative of this neotropical genius. It is a fairly common insect on fungi or rotted wood in moist habitats at higher elevations in the southwestern U.S. Larvae are nocturnal and feed in groups.
