Taken at Whitewater Draw, Az 2010 w/ Canon Powershot sx10is
An elegant bird of open habitats such as prairies, meadows, tundra, and agricultural fields, Sandhill Cranes gathers in spectacularly large flocks at traditional locations across the continent’s interior during the non-breeding season.
Stands with body horizontal, picking grain, seed, fruit, insects, and small vertebrates from the surface of wetlands or farm fields.
VOICE call is a loud, trumpeting gar_oo-oo, delivered frequently and intensely durring courtship displays
I am aware that these are not “high quality” but it was such a thrill to see this in person that I wanted to share just a piece of what I had experienced! Remember I was using my P&S Canon sx10is. Could only get so close…..So please don’t be upset with me that I uploaded this pic, it was such an experience!
