Blue-winged Teal

This small duck occurs in many habitats south of the tundra; it nests on shallow lakes in prairies, farmland, and grasslands, and winters on lakes, rice fields, and other wetlands. Like other teal, Blue-winged feeds mostly on seeds of aquatic vegetation.

Females and eclipsed males are Cinnamon Teals. Males always dark-eyed (compared to cinnamon teal), white facial crescent and flank patch.

VOICE Varied: a piping keep, like Long-billed Dowitcher (from female); a weak single quack, sometimes in descending “snickering” series (mostly from female); scratchy yelps; frog like barks; a shoveler-like thk.

My images are not photo shopped. They have only been adjusted with basic sharpening, contrasting & saturation techniques. I believe that in order to appreciate Nature, you have to capture it as it is, naturally.
