Least Sandpipers breeds across a large swath of Alaskan and Canadian tundra and muskeg. In migration it visits varied habitats, including muddy pond edges, rivers, wet farm fields, and fish hatcheries. It stays at the periphery of mudflats, where it picks at the surface for food. This is the only peep with yellow legs other than the Temminck’s and Long-toed Stints, both vagrants to Alaska.
