Band-tailed Pigeon taken at the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum
in Tuscon, AZ

Unlike the rock pigeon, they are often perching for long spans of time either singly or in a small group at the tops of tree with little or no foliage. Size of flock may increase in the winter. Forages among branches for berries, grains, seeds, nuts, and insects;rarely descends to the ground.

VOICE Call is a low repetitive whoo-whoo, thaqt sounds vaguely owl-like. During breeding season, male calls from open perch to attract a mate.
