The mountains Lions range once exceeded that of any other American mammal, from southeastern Alaska to souther South America spanning the continental U.S. Over huntung and habitat destruction have confined this secretive and solitary cat to large tracts of remote terrain.

The male’s territory can average a hundred suaremiles and may overlap within smaller home ranges of several females.

Habitats vary from high in the mountains to desert to tropical desert. Earning several names such as Cougar, Puma, Mountain Lion, Catamount (cat of the mountain) and panther
