Snowy Egret

A delicate bird of of the coastal and interior wetland habitats. Small populations have also been seen around wetlands in the Great Basin, western Great Plains and central valleys of California. Snowy Egrets were hunted for their plumes, especially breeding season when the plumes are a plenty. Using them to adorn hats in the early 20th century.

VOICE Common call a grating rrrow. Also a drawn out croaking from squabbling birds and braying, guttural sounds from breeding birds.

Oh, so fine!! My sister-in-law is a watercolorist who recently posted this painting of an egret, & we had some custom-made postage stamps made of it! They turned out beautifully, & we gave them to her for her birthday. Big hit!! Wonderful photo, Kimberly.

  • She is a wonderful artist! What a lovely and thoughtful gift for her. Thank you Sheila!
