RIP 30D
I woke up this morning at around 5am and headed out with my trusty kit bag to take some photos of the sunrise. I’ve done this countless times before but this morning… well this morning has left me shattered.
I was in my own world merrily setting up by the waters edge, doing everything the way I had done on so many other occasions… just waiting for the light to give me my first shot of the beautiful morning colours when this punk walked up behind me with his fishing pole and tackle box in hand and scared the absolute shit out of me!
As a result, I turned… tripped on my tripod… fell on my ass and then much to my horror, watched as my tripod and camera tumbled ever so slowly and peacefully into the water lapping up onto the shore.
All the fisherman could do was chuckle as he continued his way along the beach, all I could do was weep with my old friend in my lap as I watched the lights go out forever.
So this is the last image that will ever come from my beloved Canon 30D. She has been a faithful companion over the years and I will miss her.
As a result, I am reducing EVERYTHING by 10% as I am now trying to bridge the gap between insurance and a replacement companion… a small comfort but I am sure this is what my trusty 30D would want me to do.

Ouch, that would really hurt.
Check out your home contents insurance, it may cover your camera in this situation.
Disenchanted replied
Thanks Mark… yes insurance will help recover ‘most’ of it, but insurance companies being what they are… it’s like getting blood from a stone.
Cadence Gamache
This is a WAY cool photo. I’m sorry to hear about your loss, though :(
Disenchanted replied
Thank Cadence… it was a very expensive image to make. haha
Michael Eyssens
We do feel attached to the tool, but it’s images will last forever. It is part of the journey.
Disenchanted replied
Thank you Michael. :) You are so very right of course.

But for grace of good ‘luck’ there go I – sorry to learn of this Matt. I shoot near the water these days a lot – and as much care as I do take, theres many a slip to be had. I was up in Qld last year with Kumi, shooting in swimming pool, that is me and the camera and my wireless flash unit, and Kumi, bless her, asked if ‘that thing floating in the water’ as she pointed to it was waterproof. Alas the freexwire was not. I left it clad in heavy duty silica gel stuff and with super luck it all came well again after a couple of days. My pain is not anywhere near yours, but I feel for your sorrows. All the best.
Disenchanted replied
Thanks Doug… it is a personal tragedy but to keep things in perspective, it certainly could have turned out much worse. We sometimes tend to forget that these material ‘things’ we become so attached to are fairly easily replaceable even though it does feel like I am missing an arm right at the moment. haha

Bloody hell! But what a stunning, whimsical, gorgeous swansong! Insure the next one!!
Disenchanted replied
Well thank you very much… and just so you know, the 30D was insured.
I’m just waiting on the cheque to come in the mail. :)
Karen Tillotson
Oh my god….what a tragedy! My sympathies! Astounding image though!

he needs to be punished!!!
Slap him with a dead salmon.
Very roughly.
I bet you cried. I would have (after sayin “F&CK!!!” a few hundred times.)
Look at it this way… now you can buy some Minolta/Sony or Nikon equipment!
Is this the “death photo”?

I would cry for the rest of my life… if i lost a possession that is even half the (emotional) value of your camera. RIP 30D, RIP
