18th September 2006 saw the opening of the first vehicular bridge over the river clyde in over 30 years, costing £20 million and built to last for 120 years. Its predecessor being the mighty Kingston Bridge.

It connects Finneston, near the SECC and the Clyde Auditorium to Govan, near the BBC Scotland, STV, IMAX and Science centre Buildings.

Officially named the “Clyde Arc” the bridge has become more fondly rererred to as the “Squinty Bridge” due to its structure and shape, and is refered to as such wherever you hear it mentioned, even on the news !

This is a shot of it at night, where the lights phase through a series of colours… red, pink, purple, blue…

Shot on my Nikon D60, hand held, no alterations made to the image after shooting.

Cracking image, the bridge looks great lit up at night judging by this. I’ve been meaning to visit here at night for a long time, but in summer it gets dark too late and in winter it’s too cold :)

  • I know what you mean – this was taken early in the year, my hands were freezing !! luckily I didnt have far to go to heat up .. otherwise I’d have thought twice !! Thanks for the great comment – I’m glad you like it :o)

This is a fabulous shot which takes a lot of patience. Well done!!!I wonder if it will last 120 years!
  • Thanks again biddumy, it was hald held, I dont think I breathed at all when I was trying to get it, also had to wait til it phased through my fav colour ! hehehe Its already had a little incident about a year or so ago when one of the struts snapped and pinged onto the road, we thought it was thunder that night… not a good start for it Im afraid but I still love it.

Great capture, I have seen this bridge from the motorway , it’s an amazing piece of Scottish architecture. I have also just noticed in this image that with the reflection, it is almost a perfect eye shape, wonder if that was meant?.

  • I didnt realise how much it looked like an eye until I looked at the image after …. its a pretty cool bridge. Thanks for the comment ! :o)
