what is a dark woman?
is she the mystery
that she contains within?
is she the contrast between
the iris and the white of her eye?
is she the veil
that obscures natural beauty?
is she the glowing of her skin?
is she the needs
we know she will fulfill?
the mammy, wet nurse, cook, the maid
the driver, lunchmaker, CEO, teacher?
nurse, the doctor, the lawyer, the preacher?
who is the dark woman?
she is one whose presence remains unknown
she is indifferent to us yet not alone
she is one who heals and removes the hurt
she who moves quietly now
she is patient discrete persistent replete
she who knows us; staid and mighty.
many things she is and more she is not
not simply the shadow of doubt
cast upon her by a society troubled
by years of indoctrination, centuries of
unexplored psychology, a history of
repression and xenophobia.
she is your neighbor,
she is your wife,
she is your colleague or boss,
she is your partner for life.
we are the dark woman…each of us
in some type of way. we who serve
we who pray. we who birth, we sashay
we smoke and drink, we work we play.
we dance we live we love we laugh
buxom or slender; witty and trite
earthy and winsome, woman of fight.
all this and more…more to explore
she is dark woman for you today?
look at your dark woman today
each day, take time for her to explore.
live some laugh some and know her
this day, now and for evermore.
Dark Woman
meditative musings of moderate sort.

I had to read this twice and will read it again as each time you read it you get more and more out of it … beautiful words that have a timeless flow!

thanks, Jen…It was inspired by a photograph on flickr…but I had to write about it here. it continues to grow in me as well.
