Overlooking the Caldera de Taburiente translated as ‘Stewpot’ or ‘Cauldron’ this bird diverted me to the other side of a rocky pinnacle while his mate tackled the picnic in my backpack. They just LOVE apples !! Taken on the wonderfully unspoilt island of La Palma in the Canaries with my Nikon D60, Nikkor VR 18-200 lens and polariser filter. The huge crater is 8km wide and surrounded by soaring rock walls and nearby the clearest air in Europe (above the clouds 300 nights of the years) is home to the worlds largest and 7 other telescopes.
I fully recommend a visit to this amazing volcanic scape and wonderful forests. A hikers delight tho the 19 k trek along the ridge joining a dozen or so volcanoes is still on my to do list as it needs pre-training for sure!
