mexican wave

I’m thinking this may be what’s called a ‘groyne’ .. (new word from the bubble) hit twice daily by the power of the sea in Mexicos’ Playa del Carmen, and lit by the sinking sun.

Part of much needed coastal defenses it helps prevent sandloss and erosion on the inland side..especially important as hurricanes can play havoc with currents ad movement of sand..

Captured with a Nikon coolpix compact E4800 its a small apology for a wave but a great excuse to flag up some exceptional wave watchers with unbelievable work..

Please check out the exceptional work of my heroes
Paul Manning , Phil Threlfall
and Matt Ryan to name but three..

cheers
maggie

lovely capture, the ocean slapping effortlessly against the groyne, displaying such latent power in the wave as it explodes up. Like the way the light is reflecting off the wet sacking .Beautiful shot.

Nice capture Maggie your text is right on haveing grown up in New Jersey almost ever town along the ocean has a couple of these and they have there pros and cons the cons being that every few years the sand on one side ,the side that the current sweeps fills with so much sand it covers the rocks and needs to be built bigger and bigger

    mike

  • dinghysailor1 replied

thanks michael – hadnt thought of that side of it.. the sand seemed to be visibly going here with trees being eroded and one cabin being lost just during our stay.. which must be so worrying for them..
