downpour

This torrential downpour put us off our planned sunset sail last night… lightening and metal dinghy masts are not the best combo I fear… the raindrops almost bouncing off the loch.. or stoatin’ doon as joak would say..

Not great art but a memorable night and just wish i’d got those rebounding raindrops more clearly… try viewing large..

Thanks for looking!

cheers…

this is good maggie, I especially like the Rescue boats in the shot as anybody daft enough to go out in the water would definately need to be rescued. Hope you had a toddy when you got home after this. lol. x

  • Steve Taylor

I think this is a great shot. Strong comp and it makes you think the rain might sink the boats.

  • dinghysailor1 replied

thanks steve!! luckily the rescue boats are moored without a bung (plug) in so they float the same… unlike my dinghies which fill up unless i bale them out… lol .. so just glad i wasnt out in either when it hit!

I disagree about your comment ‘not great art’... this one is very interestingly lit… it looks tragic, like an emergency scene with the rescue boats in the pouring rain.

Oh, I love this! I think it’s great art, and I can hear and almost smell the rain. This is MY kind of weather. We’re having a mini-version of this right now, but (and I guess this is good) no lake in the back as I gaze at the rain. The “Rescue” looks particularly ironic on each boat. Well done!

  • dinghysailor1 replied

Huge dinghy grins here for your lovely feedback… and LOL ‘irony’

There is something extra to an image such as this. More than just the subject matter or the abstract marks made by the rain. Or the tighten ing of the composition caused by the boats placed so well at the top of the image. Perhaps it is a combination of disparate elements coming together that make it such a wonderful image.

  • dinghysailor1 replied

wow thanks for your lovely thoughtful comments ken.. really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts… and i was just amazed at this extreme weather event and relieved i had my camera there.. (thankfully it’s still working since then…LOL)
