  • dinghysailor1 replied

grinning here lois!! glad you enjoyed the virtual dip and yes ..as we say in our town riding..’safe oot safe in ’ is our aim every time… and they were all winners in these survival conditions!! not big waves but the gusts whistle over through and round the surrounding hills and then hit that water and fan out in all directions! its what makes us go back every week .. a great challenge!!
    cheers and thanks again

I’m envisioning huge expanses of openness here. Where I used to sail was mostly very sheltered … a narrow but deep river off the Chesapeake Bay that had high mainland to one side and tall high islands to the other. A locally well-known shelter for the big-boy sail boats from Annapolis. Catching a breeze was a bit of a lark … much luck needed most of the time. Infrequently I’d tack myself out to the bay … a loooooong process … where the winds blew a bit more predictably … but nothing like what you describe. Besides, I’ve have been dunked in a heartbeat!!!! Key to success: Know Your Limitations!!! Still … your image brings back jolly memories!!!!!!!

  • dinghysailor1 replied

ooh so lovely to hear of your adventures.. this is inland water 2.5×1 mile but as deep as the surrounding hills are high.. dark peaty water and the winds whistle in all directions.. .. hugely absorbing sailing with an eye on the mast top burghee at all times but the wind even doing something different below it sometimes..!!

wise words indeed! will try it when i grow up..LOL….
