sian ka'an
A solitary boat guides us through the wonderful wild biosphere reserve of sian ka’an (mayan for ‘where the sky was born’) a 1.3million acre mix of flooded savannah, mangroves, forests and coral reef. Situated on a long penisula south of Tulum on the caribbean coast of Mexico’s yucatan peninsula .
Home to crocodiles, jaguar, puma, manatees, monkeys and more….. with a mix of freshwater bubbling up from cenotes or sinkholes and even some mayan ruins largely unexcavated and some 350 kinds of birds…
An amazing gem of a wild wet place devoted to conservation ….but largely undiscovered…..
A first boat trip (!) for my new Nikon D60 with , Nikkor 18-200 lens , UV filter,
at f/9, 1/320sec, ISO-100, 18mm

aw thanks everyone.. it is a hidden wonder of a place off the beaten track…

Beautiful shot, dinghy! The lines of the boat lead the eye to the left bank and then on down-river toward the sky. An area of the Yucatan peninsula seldom seen, I think. Good low shot gives the true feeling of all the dense low foliage. Well done! Brave use of your camera, eh?
