sweetie … this is fantabulous!!!!! And … from my VERY limited store of knowledge re camera settings, by golly, I think you’ve GOT it!!! I honestly think that as high a shutter speed as you can get (well, with my Nikon D40x anyhow) the better. I also keep my exposure down to at least -.33 … unless I’m shooting in very dark situations. So it all looks right as rain to meeee … and witness your gorgeous results!!!!! Methinks SOMEbody is having FUN!!! And oooo … my mouth is watering over that fabulous lens!!!!! WHEEEEE!!!!

  • dinghysailor1 replied

thanks again lois i’m loving it all thanks to you ;)))) wheeeeeee !!!!

Looks like you’re really getting the hang of you D60. I’m way behind on the learning curve so I know where to come when I get stuck (at this rate 24/7)!! Great image.

hey thanks andrew this was the shot when the penny dropped re exposure… too late for my holiday pics tho.. teehee… ;))))

Landscape shots are better suited to larger f stops Dinghy but then that doesn’t mean they always have to be shot that way. A tripod & f22 would be my preference in most cases. That said a lower f stop works when shooting mist & fog but again its not a rule that shouldn’t be broken.
Now marks out of 10, I thinks its worth a 10 don’t you.

I don’t want to put a damper on your great efforts with this picture, but the 18-200 lens at f6.3 is not quite performing at its best, shooting at 1/500th or even 1/250th with a VR lens will still give shake free images and allow an aperture of f8 or f11.
“Stopped down” to f8 or f11 will get the best from the lens, If you use a tripod with a VR lens it is best to turn the VR off, which Nikon advise, as otherwise the processor hunts for vibration to control and there isn’t any. Keep shooting…...............

  • dinghysailor1 replied

thanks mark thats really useful info (especially that bit about turning off VR with a tripod) and no damper at all ;)))
Thats why I’m posting the settings – so folk can help me make sense of them and point out where I might do things differently ..
So thanks and I really appreciate you taking the time to look and comment ;)))
