local colour
Taken in the lovely morning light outside the beautiful historic harbour of Honfleur, I just loved this colourful nautical jumble…
Not sure if this works well without further cropping but bits I couldn’t bring myself to cut out include …the road barriers which come down to close the road so it can lift up to allow visiting boats to enter via a loch, as we had done the previous night. Also (on the left) parts of the historic Lieutenancy building in which can be seen parts of the earlier medieval defences and ramparts.. while my memory is still fresh of all the harbour ladders (one seen to right of pic) up and down which I perilously clambered daily back to the boat laden with armfuls of baguettes, cameras, croissants and other delicacies… they say on board ship ‘keep one hand for yourself’ but I often ran out…... and had to trust to balance alone… oooer…. no soggy pain tho thank goodness!!

Great color!

I like how you’ve done this. It would be very easy to take a photo of a pretty little town, which would also be pretty boring. By putting all the fishing gear in the foreground, you’ve given it some context and told us something about the town. As your title says, it’s local colour, and it looks much more picturesque as a result.
Roddy Atkinson
Great textures, well captured.

Congrats my friend on the feature, it’s absolutely beautiful. I so do love looking at pictures in this group, because I grew up in a small fishing village in Newfoundland and now I work at a dock offloading fish, on Vancouver Island. Fantastic shot! I recognized those ropes right away as being from Honfleur. I was there just over a week ago, but unfortunately, didn’t have my camera this time. Love the colours and the perspective of the shot with the old walls on the left.
