canary grass
Grass seedheads close-up - looking to me like some species of canary grass (genus Phalaris ) - which I photographed in an area of ‘native grasses’ at Royal Pk, Parkville, Melbourne. I am not an expert, and didn’t read the sign, so I’m not sure if this is an Australian native or not.

Shameless self-promotion
I’ve just finished work on a CDROM database of grasses - which doesn’t include this image, I only did the technical aspects of the CD - that is in the process of publication by Nullum Publications, along with a book. Please contact me if you’re interested in Australian grasses, specifically the east NSW/QLD region, and I’ll get you a copy.

Thanks for your comments! Yes, isn’t it delicious! I think this was a shot with a wide-angle lens and an extension tube to bring the focus closer.
