FOREST PUFF ADDER Bitis gabonica DIGITAL PAINTING. NOT A PHOTOGRAPH by

Another digital artwork created using Corel Painter v X for a WWF stamp issue for Sierra Leone. This close up of the head shows the distinctive ‘horns’ on this particular critter, which didn’t appear in the ref photo as it was of another sub-species. I added them using info given to me by the WWF zoologist.

I have been a freelance illustrator for over 40 years. For the last 10 years or so, I have been working exclusively digitally, using Corel Painter x V on PC. I do NOT manipulate photographs to create my paintings. I use photos for reference purposes only.

Haha ‘snake eyes’!! I have been up close and personal with many snakes (not these ones though) and the way you have captured the detail is nothing short of amazing, especially with those horns that werent even in the reference image. And the way you made them uneven makes it even more realistic, as things just aren’t perfect in nature. You may not ever be 100% happy with your work given that you’re always your hardest critic, but damn this has gotta be pretty close for you mate.
