CARIBBEAN FLAMINGO Phoenicopterus ruber (NOT A PHOTOGRAPH OR PHOTOMANIP)by DilettantO
Yeah, I know it looks like a photograph, but as is always the case with me, it isn’t. It’s yet another digital painting I created using Corel Painter v10. So you thought birds didn’t have teeth? Look closer…
Owen this is as amazing as ever! Simply BRILLIANT work and detail- wow…the teeth!!!
Thanks Rosie. I’ve been off RB radar recently for a number of reasons, one being I am in the middle of a ‘work slump’ and have had nothing new to post, until now. I have a couple of jobs to do, so I will be around for a bit. Yeah, the ‘teeth’ were a surprise to me too. It’s actually a deep serration along the beak edge, but in c/u they look EXACTLY like tiny teeth. Wouldn’t like to upset one of these babies! Take care XXX

Excellent work Owen.Love the work of the feathers.Very impressive.Take care!! Marty
Thanks Marty. Haven’t tackled a flamingo before…and with those scary looking ‘fangs’ I think ‘tackling’ one for real would be a very bad move…Feathers, as always, are interesting to paint, as I’m sure you have discovered. Take care mate.
Thanks Tainia. All is ‘well’, a lot moreso that it was, but the ‘dust’ has yet to settle…Hope it has where you are and that any nearby water isn’t in too close a proximity…XX
Thanks. I actually use a very old and vastly superseded Wacom Intuos GE tablet. I have tried a few much more recent Wacoms but to be honest, I don’t need tons of bells and whistles. I like to keep it simple.

Beautiful!
Thank you Barbara. I guess they are rather lovely birds, but I find that beak a bit scary and I’m not sure about the ‘wild’ eye either….X

I can imagine the hours gone into this, simply stunning!
Thanks Heidi.
It took about 20 hours to paint. A bit longer than normal but a lot quicker than if I had painted it with trad media.

Gorgeous work, O! How are you btw? Ok?
Thanks Hillie. I’m okay, but I could be more ‘okay’…. Thanks for asking. X
