TOMATO GROUPER Cephalopholis sonnerati (NOT A PHOTOGRAPH OR PHOTOMANIP)by DilettantO
Digital painting created using Corel Painter vX for a WWF First Day Cover envelope issue for Aitutaki This was quite a complex piece to paint. If anyone is interested in how I did it, just ask me and I’ll post some images to show you.
What a beautiful fish (wonder what he tastes like) – seriously though, I’d love to see how you get all of that detail. Bet that took ages……..talk about joining the dots…..XXXX
Thanks Lozzie. Took between 20-30 hours and many times I found myself asking ‘Why am I doing this?’. I think we both know the answer… Being able to work in layers made it possible to do. I doubt if I could have (or would have wanted to) if I hadn’t done it digitally. Xxxx
Great work! The detail in this one must have left you going a bit boggle eyed!
Thanks Trish. It was a challenge, that’s for sure., even though I knew how I was going to do it. Fair to say that it wouldn’t really have been possible if I had been using paint. X
Another incredible masterpiece… am amazed at the way the light is captured on his flank, just like the flash of a camera going off! x
Thanks Teacup. In the original ref pic, the fish was just against water, no reef etc and I think the photographer must have used flash because the colors were a bit washed out. I enhanced them a bit for the painting, as well as add that background from another ref pic, which had other fish in it which I have left out. X
