RIMATARA LORIKEETS 3 ( NOT A PHOTOGRAPH OR PHOTOMANIP)by DilettantO
Third of 4 digital paintings created using Corel Painter X, for a WWF First Day Cover envelope issue for the Cook Islands. 4 separate ref photos were used as the basis for this painting. All 3 birds were in separate shots, as was the background.
Stunning work …. well I expect that from you…And you never fail me ..xx
Thanks Karen. I expect it of myself and am usually pleased, although not stunned. I leave it to the rest of the world to do that to me. That never fails either, mostly for all the wrong reasons. XX
Thanks Trish, When I send these to the zoologist in Switzerland later tonight, (I will be posting the fourth and final artwork here shortly) I will ask him if he knows. He usually does. The guy is a walking natural history encyclopaedia X
this completes a superb set , great work , you have really captured personalities in these little chaps.
Thanks Tempe. All lorikeets seem to have a lot of ‘character’ as well as being colorful and I try to bring that out in the artwork. I’m glad you picked up on it. XXX
amazing picture! colorful and so alive! great one sir!
Thanks again! The painting was composed using a number of reference photos. It would be almost impossible to get all this happening in one photo! Fortunately, I can ‘invent’ scenes that photographers might never be able to capture. X

Thank you. The composition took a bit of working out, but I’m quite pleased with the result.

Awesome work!
Thank you. I like to show some typical foliage, especially if the birds feed from it as these obviously do. I have no idea what the plant is though!

Looks like Kangaroo Paw or some sort!
Hmmmm I doubt it. These birds are from the Cook Islands and I don’t think they have Kangaroo Paws there…X

Awww Hon, that’s beautiful – so much life and movement and vivid colour. You’ve done a superb job with it….. XXXX :)
Thanks Hon. When you consider the ‘backstory’ happening at the time, I’m surprised it got painted at all.XXXX
