RIMATARA LORIKEET ( NOT A PHOTOGRAPH OR PHOTOMANIP)by DilettantO
First of 4 digital paintings created using Corel Painter vX for a WWF First Day Cover envelope issue for the Cook Islands. Two reference photographs were used as the basis for this painting, because the one showing the bird at the bottom extracting nectar from the banana ‘pod’ didn’t include the cheeky one squawking at us on top. I thought it made a great combination, as no doubt the photographer would have, but had to be content with two separate shots. I, on the other hand…
Thanks Di, Have you seen these birds in the wild? They look a bit like lorikeets we get over here but I’ve never seen these, so I only have the ref pix to go by. X
Just look at his cheeky face! Yet again a beautiful creation with such stunning colour and detail….. very speccy indeed Hon. XXXX
Thanks Lozzie. I agree about the ‘cheeky face’. That’s why I decided to include that bird as well, even though the shot of just the bottom bird on it’s own would have worked okay on it’s own. XXXX
I haven’t seen these here O. Such a beautiful painting! Well done indeed!
Hi Hillie and thanks. I haven’t seen them either, but seeing as they are from the Cook Islands, which are in the Pacific (between Tahiti and Tong, I’m reliably informed), I doubt if I’m likely to over here. I guess they might end up on then east coast sometimes, so maybe you should keep an eye peeled…X
Was looking thru your work trying to find a favorite …. Well I couldn’t . But I do love the sea critters ones most. Probably my love of the ocean to blame for that . Your works are simply outstanding .
Oddly, I don’t really have a favourite. It’s easier to say which ones I least like and they are probably dolphins. Beautiful animals, but quite boring to paint and they are usually only photographed on the surface or leaping out of the water. The most interesting issue I did of dolphins was of 4 different kinds and some were underwater. I actually did those for Australia Post a while back. They are on RB somewhere I think…XXX

I just perused quite a bit of your art and am quite impressed with your corel paintings. I paint wildlife traditionally and I do have Corel X but have not messed with it yet. You have inspired me to get my tablet out and get to work. I read and looked at the links on your profie. You are quite busy with your wonderful talents. Very excellent work you have here and adding you to my watchlist!
Thanks Deborah, I’ve been ‘off Bubble’ for some time, so apologies to not responding earlier. I will post some recent work soon, when I get used to RB again. I never did get a handle on the new ui they brought in all those months ago, and now I’ve been away from it for such a long time, it’s even more confusing….X
