REDDISH EGRET ( Egretta rufescens) #3 (NOT A PHOTOGRAPH) by

Third of 4 digital paintings for a WWF stamp issue.
This shows the egret in both white and dark ‘phases’.
As with all my work, photomanip was not used to create this. Photos were used as reference only. It was painted using Corel Painter in conjunction with a Wacom Graphics tablet and pressure sensitive stylus on PC.

I have been a freelance illustrator for over 40 years. For the last 10 years or so, I have been working exclusively digitally, using Corel Painter x V on PC. I do NOT manipulate photographs to create my paintings. I use photos for reference purposes only.

    WOW!!! Awesome work!!!

  • Thanks Jean. As you probably realise, I had two separate photos to work from here. Would have been a lucky shot to get the birds in both ‘phases’ in one shot.

Magic work, better than a photo, it just looks so real.

  • Thanks Warren, please see my comment to Jean above. I also added a blue sky, Neither of the skies in the photos was suitable.

    Fabulous work, amazing skills.

  • Thanks Mary. Well, I have been doing this stuff all my life and I paint virtually every day, so if I can’t make a decent job of it by now, I think I should give up! X

    Wonderful work!

  • Thanks Trish. I always enjoy painting birds. Much more fun than fish, which I get a lot of! For some reason, fish are very popular subjects for stamps. X
