Please forgive a little self indulgence here… After uploading the original un-retouched shot of this earlier, as a challenge entry for Music of the Spirit, I decided to have a play around with it and deep etch out the rather cluttered background and paint out the mic stand to make it into a more ‘timeless’ looking image. I don’t usually like pix of myself, but I have to say, I think this one doesn’t look too bad now, in a generic/English folk tradition sort of way. I will leave the original as the challenge entry.
Yep I really like that one – much more striking. You’ve done a great job with it….XXXX
Thanks Lozzie. Well, the other one is just a straight record of the event. The photographer obviously wasn’t too fussed with what was going on in the background. I’m sure it was some guy from the local paper, so it wasn’t like he wanted to make great ‘art’….just part of his 9-5 grind. Glad you approve of the edit job XH
you did a fantastic job of changing the background in this… your maticulous work always looks remarkable!!! this picture really highlights the star of the show!!! barb XH
Thanks for the fave B. I’m glad you like the ‘edit’! I’ve been meaning to do it for ages but wanted to be able to spend some time doing it, which I was able to do today. I’m glad I waited! XH
This is amazing work- one of my favorite SP’s ever!!! Incredible work- well done!
Thank you! I haven’t really done any photo manip, but the original pic of this has been on my mind for a bit od editing for some time and yesterday, I decided to give it a go. Glad I did as it turned out pretty well and gave me the confidence to try a bit more sometime.X
Thank you Sinisa. I was after a ‘timeless’ feel, so I had to get rid of all that junk in the bg and especially the mic stand. Maybe I should have taken out my wristwatch too….More fun to do than I expected. Glad you like it too. X
This is a fabulous character portrait….there is great intention here…x
Thanks Karen. I’m always being told I look ‘cross’ when I play. It’s not true. In this case, I’m just concentrating hard on both the music and the dancers. At the time, I hadn’t been playing long, less than a year and so playing for dancers in a large public display was quite a daunting prospect…hence the intense expression. I was actually enjoying myself! X

Very impressive, have you still got that hat, I love it !
Thank GeddaB. No, the hat is no more. They were real flowers, not plastic, by the way, with pheasant and peacock feathers. I still have the ‘sash’ thing. Its green and called a ‘Baldrick’ like the Tony Robinson character in Black Adder. The designs on it are made of gold cord and are celtic ropework designs as seen on stone Celtic crosses, found all over Cornwall. The fiddle is the first one I had, a cheap Chinese one, on which I painted some more Celtic designs. One of my daughters, still living in Cornwall, now has it. X

Great photo…especially with the back story to the original…
Henley on Thames and Morris Men, bringing stuff floating back from my Oxford days, this is a great edit from the original. Well done!
Thanks Soaps…bit of a ‘nostalgiafest’ happening here….X

Really fun work! I love the processing :)
Thanks Veronica. I did it in Corel Painter, which isn’t really a photo manip program, but it still seemed to work okay.
