Okay, here’s one more example of a veiled ‘homage’ of mine in another Thomas the Tank Engine book. This one was for Random House NY and was entitled ‘Happy Birthday,Thomas’. Again, this was painted in gouache in the early 90’s.
Not a homage to Frank Zappa this time but a certain Monty Python song. This pic just HAD to have a lumberjack in it, otherwise it would have been just a boring pile of logs, so what better lumberjack than the one celebrated in the now famous ditty…you all know the lyrics so I don’t need to repeat them here and risk getting sued my Mssrs Cleese et al. If you look closely at the guy you will see he wears ‘suspenders’ (braces) holding up his pants and on the left side of his neck under his very macho plaid lumberjack type shirt, is just a hint of bra strap. ‘But what about the high heels?’ I hear you cry? Look closely at the negative shapes between the logs…
This one’s not for sale either, unless you can track down a copy of the book on eBay.

Classic image, Thomas and Monty Python undertones, how very English! I’m pretty sure you could add lyrics from a Lyric website, there is 100’s of them with lyrics to songs on them and even a group on here that asks you to add the lyrics with our work…copying a YouTube clip is common too, .I know what you mean but I don’t think there is any problem with it really, do you think…copying lyrics from all these lyric websites if we credit the lyric site as is normally done? Must check that out more too. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for Happy Birthday Thomas, great creativeness mate! :O)
Brilliant!! Love the shoes!
this is so cool, O…. love the idea… here are the words to the song, in case anyone is trying to remember them…. i could sing the first verse and chorus.. but after that… could remember bits and pieces.. but that’s about it… this is really a great… IT NEEDS TO BE A TSHIRT!!! b.xx
ARTIST: Monty Python
TITLE: I’m a Lumberjack
I’m a lumberjack and I’m okay
I sleep all night and I work all day
He’s a lumberjack and he’s okay
He sleeps all night and he works all day
I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
I go to the lavat’ry
On Wednesdays I go shopping
And have buttered scones for tea
He cuts down trees…
He’s a lumberjack…
I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I love to press wild flow’rs
I put on women’s clothing
And hang around in bars
He cuts down trees…
He’s a lumberjack…
I cut down trees, I wear high heels
Suspendies and a bra
I wish I’d been a girlie
Just like my dear papa
He cuts down trees…
He’s a lumberjack…
WAHH! And I thought you were so RUGGED!
Thank you Barb, but be careful posting lyrics…. Basil Fawlty may be watching and you know what a temper he has…XH

That’s great! Love the heels! I never would have noticed something like that if it hadn’t been pointed out. :)
Thank Veronica. I was hoping people wouldn’t spot it immediately. I lkie to put things in illustrations that creep up on people and sometimes years later they spot it and the penny drops. I just thought of another pic with a good example if this. Will post it later. X

oh my, I wonder if any children noticed as they are so observant… their parents would probably have told them not to be silly, lumberjacks dont wear bras or highheels – or do they! Love it! x
Thanks Teacup, On reflection, it was probably over subtle..The bra strap is so tiny it could easily be missed, as for the high heels…well I guess if they were spotted first, it trigger the thought…X

LOL…. a bra strap!! I’ll definitely never look at Thomas the same way!!
…but if I hadn’t told you, I bet you never would have spotted it, right?
