Okay, hyaenas get a pretty bad press and most people consider them ‘evil’ at worst and ‘ugly’ at best. I try to avoid making anthropomorphic judgments on the critters I paint and try and see the beauty behind the myth. I think you’ll agree that in their own way, hyaenas have a beauty all their own, which I have tried to capture here. In creating artwork for the WWF, it is important to show both typical behaviour as well as habitat. This picture shows 2 juveniles.
I have been a freelance illustrator for over 35 years. For the last 10 or so, I have been working almost exclusively digitally, using Corel Painter x V on PC. I do NOT manipulate photographs to create my paintings. I use photos for reference purposes only.
