just waiting for the tree to fall… I can hear it creaking Diko :-)..what a wonderful painting ..full of motion and the detail is fabulous.

  • Diko replied

    Thanks Linda,
This sort of thing should not happen thesedays. But the idea of how our land was built was the inspiration for this painting.

Exceptional figures and textures on the giant tree! Straight into my faves!
It looks to be a good limited palette, which brings everything together, and makes it visually strong.

And thanks, Diko, for recommending my latest watercolour, ‘Harthope Valley’ for featuring. Much appreciated.

  • Diko replied

    Hi Colin,
It was my pleasure to recommend “Harthope Valley” as it is a terrific artwork. It is deserved in my opinion. So Thank you.

“The Woodsmen” was a great painting to paint.; I approached it with a limited palette as you note but Iwanted it to look like an old photo the had been colorised. I feel i came close to achieving this. Really glad you like it

    Hi,
Thank you for your wonderful comments.
It is sad to see such a tree being cut down, but I really liked the subject matter, more as a historical perspective. The clothing they are wearing is early 40’s style

    Thanks again

“I wanted it to look like an old photo which had been colorised.” You certainly did, Diko. But far more! – as this has the magic of being painterly! An outstanding oil painting!!

What an unusual composition. You just don’t see this subject matter anywhere. Makes it very unique and interesting. NIce work. ;)

  • Diko replied

    Hi Sharon,
I agree, an unusual subject matter for these times.
This was one of the paintings I did as a small series on Australian history. I did this mid last year. I hope to do more in the future.
I am glad you find it interesting.
