The Pensive Northern Hawk Owl by

The Northern Hawk Owl (Surnia ulula) has a very distinctive shape with a long pointed tail. It has a black frame on a whitish face.

I got to hear this owl’s alarming call “popopopopo” at the site of a pedestrian walking his dog (small black poodle) on a nearby sidewalk.
