The Least Sandpiper (Calidris minutilla) migrates broadly across the continent in spring and in fall. Disorganized small to medium flocks are typically spread out. They are often found wandering away from water’s edge and towards grassy margins. This “peep” was photographed in a pond in Ottawa, ON (Canada) as he or she had a quick bath and then leaped out of shallow water and on to a rock. Peeps are rather easily approachable along pond edges and river shores.
Image was taken with a Canon EOS 40D, a 300mm f2.8 lens and a 1.4t.c.
