canna 'Stuttgart' 2019
Soft orange flowers bloom over variegated green and white foliage. Although it can’t withstand the cold winters north of zone 7 it prefers shaded heat and wet feet; too much sun leads to the discoloration shown here.
Bob Hayes of the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens discovered this plant growing in Germany and named it ‘Stuttgart’. Mature plants (a rhizome rather than a bulb) reach 6’ and higher depending on the growing season and care. This plant, at the Whetstone Park of Roses in Columbus OH is well over seven feet in September.
