OMG Blair, your macros are so amazing. Incredible detail, textures and colours.
Blair Wainman replied
Wow!! Thanks so much Teresa!! You know, I take a look at some of these and think to myself…hmm, not much to this one I wonder if I should upload it…and these are the ones that get the praise…I guess a million birds can’t be wrong…I should listen to them more often!! Lol!!
LYN EVANS
Thud…...........collapsing into a heap. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! This is a real show stopper Blair. Incredible detail and wonderful composition.
Blair Wainman replied
Oh my goodness!! I’m so amazed sometimes at what is attractive to others! I often hesitate in uploading a photo because I think it’s not that attractive! And then…thud!! Lol! Glad you liked it!!
Béla Török
What a beautiful image, my friend!
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you so much Béla!!
Deborah H. Benoit
Stunning macro Blair!!!! Wonderful detail and I think the flower is very pretty. Fav
Blair Wainman replied
Wow! Thanks so much Deb!! It surprises me to see the least likely flowers get the attention…but then I say, A million birds can’t be wrong…I’ll listen better next time!! Thanks so much for the fav!!

Vickie Emms
I am stunned! What a fantastic capture Blair, in detail, color and macro. I still say you must keep that little camera or at least be able to borrow it for shots like this, there is nothing that will compare to photos like that …......wowzers! A fav too :-))
Blair Wainman replied
Thanks Vickie!! Yes, I don’t think that I will be that far from this H5 and will continue to borrow it…but it’s looking less likely I’ll have to worry about that anyway! Thanks for your wonderful comments!!
Johanne Brunet
I think that this is one of your best macro shots to date, expecially in terms of sharpness and details. I also love the beautiful green blurred background, and the composition. Definitely a challenge winning entry with many features along the way! :-)
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you so very much Johanne!! I do what I can with this P & S camera. What amazes me is how sometimes the sensor does it right and other times not! This was one of those times it picked up everything just right!
May Lattanzio
Just beautiful. What camera do you use and what lens?
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you May! You know, it’s a Sony DSC-H5. So that sort of says it all! What I said to Johanne in my comment is that sometimes the sensor picks up the details just right and other times not! This was one time it did it right! Lol!! I lucked out I guess! Thank you so much for your kind words!
velveteagle
Oh so glad you posted this.. What a wonderful looking flower.. What kind is it Blair.. I will plant if I can.. Such structure and beauty..
Chuck..
Blair Wainman replied
You know, I have no idea what it is. I’m still looking on the internet! It frustrates me that in this Botanical Garden they have so few plants and trees with markers. So I end up digging around way too much on the internet! I’ll keep looking and let you know!! Thanks for your kind words Chuck!! ...and thank you for the favorite!!
lorilee
WOW – what fabulous detail – a real beauty!!!!!!!!!
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you Lori!!!
Lois Bryan
fabulous image, Blair!!!!! What extraordinary detail!!!! You say the hummers and other birds love them??? What on earth are they called!!!!!
Blair Wainman replied
Oh gosh, I wish I knew. I’m still hunting on the internet!! It’s some sort of aloe plant (from the aloe family…I think). It’s frustrating because this botanical garden, as beautiful as it is, has so few markers of what the plants are so it’s all a mystery!! Thanks for your wonderful comments!!
RickF
Fantastic macro!
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you Rick!!
Barry Norton
Great image and macro
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you Barry!!
Lois Bryan
AWW!!! LOL!!!! Don’t worry … I’m sure you’ll figure it out!!!! Chances are, even if you do figure it out, the only way I’d be able to get one up here (and treat like a house plant, I guess) would be to spend thousands on shipping!! But you do know, you’re going to have to go back and get shots WITH the humming birds!!!!!
Blair Wainman replied
Here’s one now! I’ve added it to the spotlight here! Enjoy!!
Blair Wainman replied
The only difference is that these flowers are maturer…the one above is a very young one of these plants!
Blair Wainman
Lois Bryan
OMG!!! Blair!! this is soooo incredible!!! What amazing detail … oh, Blair, talk about an action shot!!!!! Spectacular detail and color!!!! Where have you been hiding this jewel?? I’m GREEEEEEEN with envy!!! Looks like they’re doing the fighting thing over the territory … they do the same thing up here!!!! Honestly … this is the shot of a lifetime!!!!! I hope you have this posted elsewhere and have entered it in lots and lots of groups????? ... sigh … whadda SHOT!!!!!!!!!
Blair Wainman replied
It’s hidden somewhere in my galleries! I’m going to try and put a photo link so that you can see it!
WayoftheWarrior

BarbaraManis
Blair, this is a real stunning macro shot. Thanks so much for the info. I see that you don’t know what they are called. You’re right, it’s not a very pretty flower but you made it look beautiful!
Blair Wainman replied
Thanks Barbara!! I’m still looking for the name of this plant…and flower! But the birds don’t care so as long it provides what they want!!
Kathy Reid
Wow this is so awesome Blair, such incredible detail, love the birds as well.
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you Kathy!!
Wendi Donaldson
Wow….incredible shot. Love that you’ve now posted two versions of the bloom to show us the difference. You’ve certainly mastered the capture of it at its most beautiful stage. Love the furry pod that it bursts from…and that the petals still have a little fur on the edges. Such a graceful blossom emerging…love the velvety texture of the petals…. Brilliant, my friend!
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you very much Wendi!!
Sandy Stewart
Very nicely taken, including lovely lines, colors and textures! Perfect choice of dof and so nicely exposed too! : )
