Into the heart of the Rainforest!
Featured in All Parks in June 2009
I had to take this one with a tripod as it was so dark that I couldn’t get a focus on anything!! This is inside the rainforest and though it wasn’t raining yet, the clouds were as thick as the trees they enveloped! Even at the elevation of 2700 M. it had me sweating just walking through this!! I can’t imagine how much work it takes to keep these paths clear enough to walk through…but had to cut my way through enough cobwebs!!
Taken along the perimeter of the Chicaque Natural Park, Cundinamarca, Colombia along the edge of the steep mountain slope in the previous capture!

wow, if that is a path ahead, I can see what you mean, true tropical paradise…..I can imagine the sultry feeling though, so thick/ Beautiful work Blair, this one is going to go places for you :-)) (to my favs for one)
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you so much Vickie!! It took me an hour to hike around this trail…talk about solitude!! I have to share something funny here. It was so thick that I couldn’t find a place to put the portable tripod, but without the tripod I wouldn’t have been able to get it at all! I had to wander a bit off the path to find a rotten tree trunk high enough to hold the camera! ...And the rain was coming in fast!!

Beautiful image and it makes a great set with After the Rain I kept going back to it and clicking to see the larger version, so I decided to add it to my favourites. It reminds me of a tropical landscape wall paper that I had in my dining room back in the early 80s! It’s a fell-good image… :-)
Blair Wainman replied
Thank you so much Johanne!! I’m going to try and go back…when it’s sunny to try and get some images with filtered sunlight as well! I’m glad you liked it and thanks too for the favorite!!

Wow! I must say I am surrounded by rainforests, I see them all the time… but I don’t know how to take pictures of them. To me, they just seem so messy that I don’t know where to start. Well done, my friend.
Blair Wainman replied
Man, you got that right!! It was dark and “no” clearings enough to get a capture. Then when I found one here, the funny part for me was I didn’t know where to set the tripod so that I could take a picture of this. Messy is the word…and it goes on forever!!
richardseah
LOL! You actually carry a tripod into the rainforest? Man, you are dedicated.
For me, any venture into the rainforest (which I have not done in a long time) is expected to be a hot, sweaty and tiring affair. Which means minimum luggage! If I have, I would just take along a Point & Shoot, otherwise one DSLR plus one lens. Well, maybe two. But not three additional legs!
After all, I do not expect to shoot much. Last time I went, I was supposed to shoot birds but ended up shooting spiders!
Blair Wainman replied
(It was a miniature tripod…Lol!! I’m not that dedicated!) I know what you mean though!! Fortunately for me, this is a mountain rainforest and so there was not the intense heat factor. But I was not able to see any birds for the mist…just spiders, as you say!! Don’t know about you but it was the cobwebs that got to me after a while!
richardseah
Ha ha ha… must have been lots of spiders! In my case, they and their webs were off the beaten tracks. The “forests” that I go to are somewhat civilised!
