I finally got one of these Sparkling Violetears at the right moment. This really shows the irridescence of the feathers when in the sunlight and of course that unmistakable violet ear markings. Taken in the José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden, Bogotá, Colombia

WOW,....you certainly did capture the iridescence of the bird’s feathers! you even stop actioned the wings! very nice!

Thank you Sandy! As I looked at your rufous hummingbird, I sure pine for a better camera! My ability to catch the stop-wing action in this one was strictly due to the automatic metering done by the camera due to the sunlight. Most of the others just can’t make it.

Thank you Glenna. I was so fortunate…and patient. I just sat no more than 3 meters away in front of these flowers and really didn’t bother that I was there and it was so great to be able to get him in all these colors. For once the sun cooperated! Thanks and glad you enjoyed this. I have about 10 others that are equally as good I think.

Fabulous! I spent hours and hours this summer on my deck trying to capture a decent photo of the hummingbirds that come to my flowers and feeder. Didn’t get one nearly this wonderful….......... I can appreciate the work this takes!

Thank you so much for your kind words! It isn’t easy, that’s for sure. It is frustrating and requires patience and I think a little luck because some of these that I got were caught in the middle of a series of multi frame mode where it just shoots one after the other. Whatever it takes I guess. They sure do make you work for it.
