This digital illustration was done in Adobe Photoshop using original pictures and compositing technics.
Inspired by the Martial Art of Wushu, pictures of
the martial artists are originally taken at Wudang in China.
Wudang in China, is very famous for its martial art Wushu. It has schools all over the world, and lots of foreigners travel, to this remote location to learn this martial art.
I wanted to give a more photographic feel to the image. Using a close up to characterise a portrait to showcase a moment in time where he is executing a Chi exercise.
The embodiment of Wushu is to respect nature and not to use the skills for revenge. Taking into account this philosophy the image of a butterfly was used to soften the toughness of the rocks levitating in the air and to symbolise
the true nature of this martial art – a look into the soul of a Wushu artist.
