Being anything but a morning person, I first decided there was something special about photography when I found myself up at dawn on a cold winter’s day, as first light filtered through a curtain of mist over Lake Boomanjin on Fraser Island, and desperate to capture it all on film. From that moment I was hooked.
I am happiest outdoors in natural spaces; photography for me is a search for visual harmony in the patterns, forms, textures, colours and movement of nature. My goal is to discover a unique view of the world around me; to find and reveal the underlying beauty in the bright and colourful, weird and wonderful minutiae of the living world.
For me, a photographic image is a visual record of an entire sensory experience. Just as the eye can perceive detail in a greater range of shades from light to dark than can a digital sensor, the photographer experiences the world more fully than can ever be portrayed in a photograph. Sights, sounds, smells, the feel of the world around us, a sense of space, of peace or discord; all these things contribute to the way our brain perceives the world. The selective use of digital postproduction brings the final image closer to the truth of our inherently subjective perception than merely what the camera sees.
Thank you for your interest in my work
