And Let’s Hear It For The Allegory Of Fidelity

I got a good friend
The kind that you’d defend,
But she’s come to the end
Of the straight and she’s still flying
Like an arrow. She keeps trying.
The Road is steep and it’s getting kind of windy
Her wheels keep defying gravity
She’s not picking up on the laws of physics upon which we depend
I just knew she wouldn’t have made the bend!

We were inseparable. Joined at the hip since school
Doing everything. Way before it was cool.
We did things for no obvious reason
We cultivated friendships out of season
We wore our hearts on the outside against the Fashion
We put the pash back into passion
Like some weird Fred and Ginger
Dancing through our lives and giving the world the finger

And she knows it as she’s blown it
But it’s all so peaceful, all sound has gone and time is slow
Let the steering wheel go,
Let the steering wheel go,
Girl, and Enjoy a last inhale and close your eyes and smile
This arrow has reached its apex
She’s gonna make this last a while

And now for the self doubt and the hurt
I let the tears soak into my shirt
I should have seen it coming. I should have done more
I should have paid more attention to the empty bottles and the kits on the floor
I recall all the signs now and they stand glowing against the sorrowful moon
This Mad Joyride has ended way too soon

But that’s history and that’s was then
My life can still go on
If I can just get the passenger door open!
Did you think that I was in love?
Did you think this was some sort of tryst?
You need to get your head read,
And blow away the mist!

I said in the beginning she was a good friend
And we all know that all good things end.
Yeah I got cuts and bruises
And it took me a while to walk back home
But I’ve got a six pack in the fridge and Car Insurance,
And someone else’s number in my phone.
