Soon after 9/11, I drew a series of comic book style depictions of the event in my journal for that year. This was the cover I came up with..

Wow! Jovan, your styles are so varied and at first I didn’t know it was yours but then you are always full of surprises. I remember where I was that night. Watching Sandra Sully on Channel 10 when she reported the first plane had hit the North Tower. I was up all night watching the whole nightmare unfold. It was so surreal Jovan.
That’s exactly what I was doing Annie. I was up watching Sandra Sully on lateline and suddenly she crossed live to CNN when the first plane hit. Then my sister in laws called us and then my sister. So Onni and I were up all night watching the whole thing unfold too.

Great work. Looks like the USA is heading for another day of infamy if they keep up with their warmongering in Afghanistan.
I hope you’re wrong Albert but that endless war in Afghanistan will not be won. I mean the Russians had to pull back in the 1980s since the Afghan fighters were so formidable.
I can’t believe that fucking war in Afghanistan is still going after nearly 9 years. Weren’t they after just one man? I’m convinced Bin Laden is either dead or living in some cave on the Pakistani/Afghan border eating rocks with a sexy goat as a companion.
Ha! Ha! You’re theory on Bin Laden is hilarious! It’s a good one. But seriously I agree Annie, I thought the Americans were going to be there 6 months maximum and now it’s been 9 fucking years! What the fuck are they doing there? And Australia for christsakes! What a joke! And our men are getting killed for nothing.
In todays news the U.S.-born radical Yemeni cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki, has a new video out and is calling for Muslims around the world to kill all Americans. I don’t want to have anything to do with the USA anymore and we should break off our alliance with the USA and get Julius Gilllard to pull our troops out of Afghanistan quick smart.BTW: I also did a drawing about the same time as you did this one.
oh wow…. not at your drawing G…. but at some of the contents in the comments on this page, rather… lost for words….
I think the last quote is a little misguided and inflammatory. I don’t condemn the USA and they had their reasons to go in. I guess I have opened up a can of worms so I have to expect these types of comments.
p.s. it was truly a horrific and tragic day…and this piece depicts the sad event well…. that beautifully intense blue sky creates tons of contrast….
Totally agree Mimi, it was an awful thing! Religious fanaticism gone psycho. I hope it will never happen again. Australia had it’s own 9/11 with the Bali nightclub bombings but not at the same catastrophic scale as this.
this was a day that stays in the ming forever !Liz
i meant mind john my typing is not great and I forget to look some times !@Liz
Ha! ha! That’s ok Liz. I understand what you meant. Cheers JD
PS: I’ve done worse than that. :))
Thanks Francis. Much appreciated! :))
I think, you draw cartoon comics really well judging from the above. ;-)
However, I wish it were a cartoon promoting peace instead of war. I do understand that such an event is truly unforgettable; as America has never been attacked like that before in their history; and, I myself cannot forget; as the event was being shown almost exclusively over here on British TV…on every single channel…for days non-stop!
Nevertheless, I feel it’s time to move on…and, get with peace negotiations; and, get over the still getting ourselves revenged part; otherwise, the war will last on, quite simply, forevermore! At some point in time the endless killing must stop!
Firstly Paul I appreciate your insightful comments and I agree with you 110% about the so called “War on Terror” and to move on to negotiate a lasting peace. But I think we are naive to think that this could not happen again.
Btw.. I chose this image because it depicts the actual moment when the second plane hit the South Tower and reinforced to the world that it was no accident.
And I agree the killing must stop in Afghanistan and Iraq, where innocent people on both sides are killed unnecessarily.
