I remember in my childhood, watching Judy Garland in “The Wizard Of Oz” for the first time was like seeing a vision of an angel on celluloid. It left an indelible impression.

love her expression… love her eyes (as you said, the eyes are truly the windows to our soul )... love how you’ve turned her into a saint…. looks more like Him with those open wounds on her hands… great great illustration, john…

  • John Dicandia replied

Thanks Mimi, I always saw Judy Garland’s character Dorothy as iconic. Maybe it’s the way the movie changed from sepia
( In Kansas ) into glorious technicolour (In The Land Of Oz ). The close up shots of her were out of this world.

Hi John, Its the skill of an artist to take a well known icon and put a modern ‘twist’ on it. Her expression is very emotional and ‘human’, I love the Tin Man in the corner as ‘guest star’. Apparently Judy nearly didnt get the part cos they thought she was ‘too old’ at 15 and too overweight and Shirley Temple was in the running. St Dorothy lost the weight and the role was hers.

  • John Dicandia replied

Thank you so much for giving such a profound insight. You must be an avid film buff like myself! :)) JD
