Perfect drop on a hot day at a family BBQ!
Yileena Park is my favourite winery in the Yarra Valley. Not only do they produce exceptional wine from their 12 acre vineyard, but Bob & Dianne (the owners) are truly wonderful people. Thankfully, the bushfires spared their property (it came within one metre of their back door) but they did lose their entire crop to the smoke. They fought the monster and sheltered others in their partially below ground cellar – adults, kids, animals .. Di estimates between 40 & 50 people took shelter at Yileena on Feb 7th.
Ever the optimists, Bob & Di turned their sheep into the vineyard to “marinate from the inside out”, so the grapes didn’t go to waste at all!
I raise my glass to Bob & Dianne, and wish them the greatest of success in 2010! CHEERS!!!

thanks Kylie! If you look closely, you can see the Yarra Ranges reflected in the glasses upside down!

thanks Tai – a few smaller wineries that lost all their fruit to the fires, had fruit from other parts of the valley, that weren’t so badly affected, donated to them so they could still make a wine from 2009. The great Aussie spirit of “helping your mates” is alive & well out here in the Yarra!

Fantastic image and hopefully the wine didn’t go to waste. I’m not familiar with this vineyard but will be in the region in the new year and am looking forward to visiting a few wineries. :)
